GOP Unveils ‘Engagement with America’ Plan Using Stock Videos from Russia and Ukraine

House Republican leaders on Friday unveiled their “Engagement with America” ​​agenda for 2023, and with it an inspiring video filled with scenes presented as rare images of America that were actually stock footage of America. Russia and Ukraine.

The video of the Republican Party, “The Preamble to the Commitment to America”, begins with a narrator highlighting aspects of what it means to be an American.

“We celebrate the rich heritage of American history and the vibrancy of the American dream,” the voice says, over footage of a drilling rig at dawn.

But this video clip, an apparent nod to America’s natural resources, was not filmed in the United States. It is footage created by Serg Grbanoff, a filmmaker living in Russia.

Grbanoff told HuffPost that he filmed this scene. in the Russian region of Volgograd. Here’s a screenshot of the image in the video of House Republican leaders, versus an original shot. on the Shutterstock website:

It is not the only case in which Grbanoff’s work appears in the GOP video celebrating America.

In another scene, a boy is seen smiling and running around a field with a toy plane. The words “Freedom and the pursuit of happiness” appear on the screen, a reference to the Declaration of Independence.

At another point in the video from House Republican leaders, they criticize Democrats on the economy.

“The Democrats have led America astray,” says the narrator. The words “Crippling Inflation and Rampant Crime” appear on the screen, over a shot of a woman walking through a grocery store.

The House Republicans video also showed this woman walking through a European grocery store.

But these are images from a European grocery store. If you look closely at the screenshot, you can see a tag hanging on one of the store’s shelves that says “AKCIA”. a slovak word which means “action”. informally“AKCIA” is used to designated sales in Slovak stores.

It is almost certain that the House Republicans also used images of Ukraine in their video about the United States.

The video includes a clip of a farmer carrying a bag over his shoulder in a cornfield, as the words “And the vibrancy of the American dream” appear on the screen.

The Republicans almost certainly used video footage of Ukraine in their video celebrating America.

This is also stock footage from a Shutterstock contributor, Dedov Stock. The man in the clip works for DedovStock and has a job page for him on his website.
